Olympic animals keep us safe from avalanches and much more and good thing too since there was an avalanche in nearby mountains.  All Olympians are blogging happy thoughts. The only upset media still seems to be London and look out UK because you are the next host and it just isn’t that easy. Vancouver has done a wonderful job to make visitors, dignitaries, athletes and even outspoken critics like Stephen Colbert feel at home. Check out his shows for a look at us and the Vancouver Scene because he filmed a few shows here live at False Creek which is near beautiful Granville Island; check out the artists blowing glass, making beads and crafts while you shop the market or just catch the jugglers and singers performing outside. Or leave town and head to Mission where you can catch (and tag and release) the biggest fish in the world; the sturgeon and be doing a good thing taking part in our conservation efforts.  While you’re there pull off Lougheed highway to see more eagles than you can imagine or take a day trip for a spa spoiling at Harrison Hot Springs less than an hour from Vancouver and half an hour from Mission/Maple Ridge. There was a protest at the Olympics launched by Native Chiefs against Norway regarding salmon and in general to highlight the Spirit bear and the trophy hunting conflict. Deborah explains the messages behind the protest and also comments on the anti-pet dog protest at Westminster the same weekend Deborah Wolfe received the BEST PET RADIO IN AMERICA award for this show ANIMAL MAGNET-PET RADIO on PRN, in the category of Live Guest interviews for a show we titled ‘DOG TALK’ with Author and show dog expert, Darlene Arden.  (Don’t worry cat people there is cat content too including how to train a cat to come, sit and jump through objects).

Thank you to Progressive Radio Network for creating the opportunity for award winning pet expert interviews. Half way through the show, Laura Cook from www.zeroallergies.com joins Deborah to explain how she can eliminate allergies for you in four treatments with no needles.  You bring samples of what you react to like bags of cat hair or pollen and she flips your bodies frequencies so your body recognizes those things and no longer reacts to them.  If you have an allergy that keeps you indoors or away from pets or you have people in your family who avoid you or your home because of your pets, then this is a must for you.  In fact sometimes we have other health problems we don’t even realize are allergy related and after the treatments obvious symptoms like stuffy nose, watery eyes, itchy skin clear up but so do harder to peg issues like digestive problems, constipation, pains, arthritis, and fatigue. Check out the website to be referred to a practitioner near you.

Deborah Wolfe explains how dogs are keeping it safe at the Olympic Games 2010 in Vancouver; from the airport to the alpine and all roads inbetween working dogs are on the job.  If animals and people competed together, humans would lose in all events and Deborah tells you which animals are stronger, jump higher and further.  Did you know that the cheetah running is not only faster than the fastest man running but also faster than the fastest speedskater? Lucky for that Vancouver Island Granny, the  mountain lion who visited her home was in a hurry to get out!  Are you wondering what its like to be at the Olympics? The crowds are friendly, and happy, the weather is warm and mild and there is family friendly fun every where from jugglers, musicians, free exhibits, and games. The police presence is huge and uniformed in both police dress and rcmp plus undercover police too. You can’t turn around looking for a sign without a uniformed volunteer asking if you need any help, and every person you encounter from security to guest services are all friendly and social and hyped for the games, giving out free pins and mugging for photos with kids. Protests have been in the news but the real protest message is being lost so listen here to find out what the authentic anti-poverty protesters want and what the First Nations chiefs want specifically from Norway. The hype about traffic must have worked because transit is successfully busier than ever and parking and driving is just simple. Deborah takes you through some of her Olympic highlights including holding the torch and watching Women’s hockey. Check out Deborah Wolfe’s blogs on www.redroom.com for more Olympic coverage.

Deborah Wolfe, just back from a trip to Southwestern Florida, tells you about the Olympic sized welcoming that goes with arriving in Vancouver these days. If you are in town for the Games Deborah will tell you where to drive to see 18 eagles in a tree- Did you know juvenile eagles have spotted feathers?  If native art is your thing she’ll tell you the museums to check out, the galleries to look at and if you read her redroom blog you’ll learn where you can see artists making both native masks and dugout canoes next to an ancient suspension bridge high above a gorge with rapids and waterfalls, and  in a different spot where heels instead of hiking boots will do the trick, you can check out the most amazing glass works and beads plus more.  Let Deborah take you  by boat right from down town to check out some of the best spots in Vancouver and you can take that boat with the simple price of bus fair, its called the sea bus because it is the cutest little commuter boat you can imagine. If you’re far away be sure to tune into these games because the backdrops will be spectacular. Expect to see beauty from mountains to seascapes and combinations of the two along with the tallest trees the world has and the deep green quiet  they command.  It is sunny and warm in Vancouver right now (50 degrees) but the mountains have snow! Deborah gives you a hands on snow tip for those in D.C. with dogs whose fur gets bogged down with snow balls. How does skiing in Whistler compare to the ‘mountains’ or hills in Ontario?  Deborah explains. The whole world is celebrating and dressing in their country colors making this a very exciting place. Did you know the torch was carried by dog sled on its run through Canada? Man and dog have been partners for a long time and Canada’s northern Native peoples knew that well. Never hire a human for a dog job Deborah explains with airports, cadavers, and getting the medicine there on time.  Go to redroom.com to see Deborah Wolfe’s ongoing Olympic blogs and hear about the animals and nature you are seeing as  the athletes make their mark in 2010. Plus Deborah will be on sight for some events including music, culture and women’s hockey- Canada vs. Switzerland. Get ready to be excited by Canadian music, culture, sport and nature. We welcome you!  And then Deborah welcomes guest, Stephanie Smith of Lambda kennels to talk about rattle snake training for hunting dogs.  What it is like to be pooped on by a rattle snake and how life brought her both a standard poodle and a red heeler. Stephanie explains some of the p.h.d. reasons for the difference between the way men and women interact with dogs in response to the question; who make better dog trainers- men or women?

Deborah Wolfe begins the show with some details about a real live meeting and training session with the beagle described last week in the week before in email questions. The dog was reported to be defiantly, stubbornly stealing and barking. He was stealing and barking but he’s doing it for completely different reasons- fear. The Olympics are not going to be smoke free and you won’t see women’s ski jumping and now…. The massive highways were enlarged for Olympic capacity with  poor consideration for wildlife like endangered frogs, bears, deer. Are dog parks safe? Deborah gives you tips on how to stand, walk and where to hang out at the dog park to be most safe. Think you know a human diva? Guess how much time each day on average cats spend self grooming? Toward the end of the show Author and Dog show expert Darlene Arden joins Deborah to talk about a couple of her most embarrassing and trying moments with dogs. She’ll be back again in a month for more fun chat. On a future show we will have Tim Link as our guest reading your pets; you must send a photo of your dog or cat looking full on to camera, eyes visible and well lit along with a question. Please subject head the email TIM LINK READING  and send it to deborah@campgooddog.com

The program begins with animal news delivered by Deborah Wolfe like a happy Golden bringing you your pet paper (or perhaps a happy housecat shredding it as you try to read). Dr. Nancy Kay, DVM, author of ‘Speaking for Spot’ makes a housecall to Progressive Radio Network and tells you about perfecting your connection with your Vet. If your dog or cat gets all the vaccines every time you receive a reminder notice it  maybe too much or not enough or just not exactly the right ones for your pet. Dr. Nancy Kay explains why you should NEVER buy any thing at all from a pet store that sells puppies and kittens. What does a puppy mill dog struggle with health-wise, emotionally and how is that for the new owners? Deborah and Dr. Kay talk about end of life issues too and how you can make the right choices for your pets making the most of the Vet on your team. You are the captain explains Nancy. Got to speakingforspot.com to see more about the puppy mill rescue dogs and order a signed copy of the book.

This is a short show so we only had time for one news item and a couple of jokes plus a preview of two new pet books. We’ll have the author on again to delve more deeply into both books, but this show will give you a taste of what is to come. Hear about Angel the golden retriever who saved her 11 year old boy from a cougar, yes a cougar aka mountain LION. The lion attacked the boy, Angel intercepted now hear what happened next. Deborah introduces you to Eve Adamson, New York Times Bestselling Author of ‘Naturally Thin’ and the author of two new pet books, ‘Pets Gone Green’ & ‘Chow Hound’. You can leave a greener pet foot print without knitting sweaters made of your pets’ fur, jokes Deborah. In fact some of the simple tips listed make it cheaper and easier as well as greener to deal with things like pet poop; anyone with a yard, a  garbage can and a shovel can make a pet poop composter, explains Eve. Plus she tells you how to give your dog the right leftovers and make your dog home made treats and foods, and don’t worry you wont’ have a skinny dog, just a healthy, happy, lip smacking, tail wagging dog or as Eve’s book calls it, a Chow hound.
